July’s classic’s read was Ursula Guin’s The Lathe of Heaven – a classic science fiction novel that follows George Orr, someone whose dreams can alter reality.
Infused with taoist symbolism and beliefs, George Orr does not want anything to do with his ability to alter reality; he visits Dr. Haber, a psychiatrist to seek help. Dr. Haber on the other hand…quickly realized the potential for that power and seems to be taking advantage of it.
Personal responsibility, love, playing God, dreams – all concepts that are interwoven throughout the story and characters.
Highly recommend the book – 8/10.
P.S. There are also a couple of films based on this novel – the 1980’s version is cleared dated but very interesting!
