I have lately ventured into the celestial reaches of Pierce Brown’s Red Rising, and I must confess, it proved a most spirited and engaging chronicle.
The world depicted within—a vast, color-coded hierarchy of the stars—is as imaginative as it is unsettling. To follow the protagonist’s journey from the depths of toil to the heights of the Golden elite is a thrilling experience, filled with both stratagem and sacrifice. It is a tale of rebellion that feels quite grand in its scope, yet it never loses its sense of excitement.
While the society it describes is harsh, the narrative itself is a truly fun read, moving with a vigor that keeps one quite absorbed in the unfolding conflict. I find myself in a state of eager anticipation to discover how the rest of this grand story shall play out in the volumes to come; there is a certain magnetism to the plot that leaves me most curious for the sequel.
It is a formidable beginning to a saga, and I grant it a most hearty four parts out of five. A triumph of adventure for those with an eye toward the heavens!
