This month’s pick was Martha Grimes’, The Man With a Load of Mischief, a mystery novel that follows detective chief inspector, Richard Jury as he investigates seemingly unrelated and bizarre murders in a small English village of Long Piddleton.
Although the book seemed a tad cliche and at points, very predictable, it was a fun and enjoyable read. In under 300 pages, you are able to get a good feel for each of the characters, the murders, the plot, the story, etc – there seemed to be little wasted words.
Something to keep in mind is that this was written in 1981, and it seems to be a part of an ongoing series that is (so far) about 26 books long. It’s a quick read, pretty superficial, but still enjoyable. Solid 7/10.
