To end the year, this month’s book club pick was Lev Grossman’s, The Bright Sword, a fresh new take on a classic Arthurian legend. The novel follows a young an aspiring knight of the round table, Callum, and his quest to Camelot…only to find that King Arthur has died and Camelot is in shambles…
The motley crew that remains set foot to rebuilding Camelot and reclaim Excalibur! Along the way, there are gruesome battles, secrets uncovered, and new connections made!
Grossman does a great job of world building, informing the reader of the current and of the events leading up to the present, and giving each character their space to shine. It can get a little drawn out at times… but it does pick back up pretty quickly. For anyone a fan and familiar with Arthurian legends, this is a great book to read! If you are new to it, this is perhaps not the book to start with.
A solid 6/10 from me. I would strongly recommend to those interested in Arthurian legends!
