This month’s pick was Keigo Higashino’s The Miracles of the Namiya General Store – a little gem of a book that falls nicely in the realm of magical realism. This is the second book we read from this author and like the previous one, did not disappoint.
Through interconnected stories that transcend time and space, we get motifs of redemption, acts of kindness, and how small simple decisions can ripple through time and affect other’s lives.
The general store 3 delinquents are hiding out in turns out to be a sort of anchor in time which allows the criminals to send and receive letters through time.
Great book. Great writing – the author always carefully places details throughout the book that he keeps referencing and does not forget to nicely close the loop on anything. The book takes place in different eras, with different POV’s and I, as a reader, never felt confused about where I was.
Solid 9/10 – totally recommend for a quick feel good read.
