November’s book club pick was Keigo Higashino’s Journey Under the Midnight Sun – a mystery/thriller/crime story that follows the murder of a man over a span of about 20 years. The author takes his time to carefully layout clues to what may have happened and who might have been involved throughout the novel which; to me, this was what made this novel a great novel.
The story of course is very interesting, character’s development is also well thought out and intriguing; however, it would be an impertinence to not mention the authors careful crafting of laying out clues from the very beginning of the story.
Overall, lots of twists and turns that make the story all the more great. I will admit, there are times when the story becomes very slow and it seems like not much is going on…before you realize there is plenty left to read. Besides these brief moments (even if they don’t seem brief at the moment), great novel and would recommend to anyone looking for their next mystery read!
